And where are all the young people?

A Belarusian raised an important question for the regions.

A resident of the district center of Vetka in Gomel Region u_nas_na_rayone_vetka drew attention to how the city center had changed.

“Where are all the young people? — he asks. — I walked through the center yesterday evening, passed by the stadium, and caught myself thinking that it had become too quiet.

Do you remember what it was like 10–15 years ago? In the evening, the benches were so crowded you could hardly get through, people played football at the stadium until dark, music came from speakers, and there was laughter and chatter. Life was bustling!

Now I look around — it’s empty. A couple of mothers with strollers, and people my age, “old folks” like me, walking their dogs.

I started wondering: where are young people hiding these days?”

Users expressed the opinion that this is connected with the mass outflow of the population to larger cities. The Charter97.org website cites several comments:

— They’ve all moved somewhere else, to places we don’t know about. Or are they simply sitting at home because “the internet is more interesting”?

— It’s a little sad. Live communication can’t be replaced by anything.

— They’re all in Poland and Lithuania.
