Uzbekistan is accelerating the implementation of six investment projects to generate electricity from waste, with a total value of $933 million, being carried out in cooperation with Chinese companies. This was reported on Thursday by the press service of the President of Uzbekistan.

The projects, scheduled for completion in 2026–2027, are being implemented in the Kashkadarya, Samarkand, Tashkent, Andijan, Fergana, and Namangan regions.

As of September 1, $286.8 million in investments had been utilized במסגרת the projects, the volume of purchases of domestic goods and services had reached $76.6 million, and 2,000 local workers had been engaged in construction work.

According to reports, once fully commissioned, the facilities will process 3.6 million tonnes of municipal solid waste annually and produce 1.6 billion kWh of electricity. The projects are intended to accelerate Uzbekistan’s transition to a “zero-waste” model, reduce the burden on landfills, and improve the environmental situation in the country.
