Europe has its own Hormuz—will they be able to close it to Muscovy?

Скагеррак

A military economist said this.

German military economist Markus Keupp called for closing off the terrorist state of Muscovy's exit from the Baltic Sea. He said this in a comment for Frankfurter Rundschau, published on September 13.

Keupp noted that Europe also has its own Strait of Hormuz. This is the Skagerrak Strait between Denmark, Norway, and Sweden, which is the only navigable route from the Baltic Sea to the North Sea and the Atlantic. One of the busiest maritime routes in the world passes through the Skagerrak.

According to the military economist, blocking this route would deal a powerful blow to Muscovy, but such a step requires political courage from the EU. Keupp emphasized that Muscovites understand only the language of force. In his view, the European Union is only now beginning to “overcome its own fear of Muscovy and develop something like a backbone.” Therefore, Europe is still far from taking such a position, he added.

The economist supported the EU's new sanctions against Muscovy, while calling the previous packages insufficiently tough. He called for harsher measures against the Muscovite “shadow fleet,” citing Italy as an example, where naval forces stop and search vessels.

According to him, Europe has all the means necessary for such actions; the only question is whether it is willing to act. He emphasized that this is precisely the stance needed if the EU is serious about defending itself against Muscovite aggression, since closing the Skagerrak would inflict far greater damage on Muscovy's economy than all previous sanctions packages.

All the more so because Muscovy is waging war not against Ukraine, but specifically against the EU—or, more precisely, against the euro.
