China and Kyrgyzstan Sign Agreement to Jointly Establish a Center for Advanced Proton Therapy for Tumors in Central Asia
The other day, Fujian Raysco Medical Techonology Co., Ltd. and a local medical institution in Kyrgyzstan officially signed an agreement to jointly establish the Central Asia High-Tech Proton Tumor Therapy Center. The project is being implemented with the support of the Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology of Lanzhou University and the Lanzhou University Center for Advanced Research on Rare Isotopes, marking a major breakthrough for China in the field of indigenous nuclear medicine.
It is understood that the new center will be one of the few high-tech oncology medical platforms in the world to implement an integrated dual-core configuration combining a proton therapy system and a medical cyclotron. The project will establish a complete local closed-loop system for oncology diagnosis and treatment based on the "diagnosis-drug administration-therapy" model, fill a gap in high-tech tumor radiotherapy in Kyrgyzstan and the Central Asian region, and help bring about a dramatic increase in the capacity for tumor diagnosis and treatment in Central Asia.
The project was developed by a team led by Professor Gu Long of the Center for Advanced Research on Rare Isotopes and the Institute of Nuclear Science and Technology of Lanzhou University. Gu Long noted that Lanzhou University had brought together leading scientific specialists in fields including nuclear engineering, accelerator physics, oncology, precision manufacturing, and others, and had achieved a full cycle of technological breakthroughs—from developing fundamental principles and proprietary key components to the systematic integration of all the equipment—thereby establishing a solid scientific research and talent base in the field of nuclear medicine in China.
