Georgia appoints a new ambassador to Azerbaijan
Giorgi Zakarashvili has been appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to Azerbaijan, Georgia Online reports, citing the country’s Foreign Ministry.
Zakarashvili has many years of diplomatic experience. Since 2021, he has served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to Ukraine and has simultaneously represented the country at GUAM—the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development.
From 2016 to 2019, Zakarashvili was Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Interests Section of Georgia at the Embassy of Switzerland in Muscovy.
Before that, from 2012 to 2016, he served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary at the Embassy of Georgia in Ukraine and at the country’s Permanent Representation to GUAM.
At the central offices of Georgia’s Foreign Ministry, Zakarashvili held the positions of Director of the Political Department and Head of the Division for Relations with Central Asian Countries.
He has been awarded the diplomatic rank of Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.
