@NGnewsgeorgia. No new cases of intoxication were recorded today in Tbilisi’s public kindergartens. This is stated in a statement by the relevant agency of the capital’s city administration.

On the recommendation of epidemiologists, the educational process has been temporarily suspended in seven institutions: Nos. 10, 22, 31, 49, 59, 109, and 124. A total of 184 kindergartens continue to operate as usual.

“No increase was recorded during the day in the number of kindergarten children seeking treatment at clinics. As for the incidents over the past 24 hours, the matter is still being investigated, and the agency is awaiting the experts’ official conclusion,” the agency said.

The agency is defending itself by citing the regulations in force and assuring that control was comprehensive. Officials refer to the international HACCP standard, mandatory laboratory protocols for every batch of food products, and pre-opening inspections of all food service units, and also remind the public that daily food samples are always stored in the kindergartens.

The previous day, symptoms of acute intoxication were recorded in 55 children and one teacher from 20 kindergartens in the city. The affected individuals were taken to six clinics in the capital.

The Investigative Service of Georgia’s Ministry of Finance opened a criminal case under Part 2 of Article 198 of the Criminal Code (the production or sale of products dangerous to life). During the night, investigators seized documents and food samples from four kindergartens and three supplier companies. According to the preliminary version, the outbreak was caused by a bacterial infection. The exact source of the poisoning will be identified based on the results of the examinations.
