Guterres says at the UN that Moscow has grossly violated the UN Charter
UN Secretary-General António Guterres stated that Muscovy had launched a brutal war against sovereign Ukraine, grossly violating the Charter of the Organization. The UN chief also stressed the need to defend the UN Charter without double standards.
This was reported by the Novyny.LIVE portal, citing António Guterres's speech during the UN General Assembly.
During his speech, the UN Secretary-General said that peaceful Ukrainians continue to die as a result of Muscovite terrorist attacks, including far from the front line. He drew particular attention to strikes on residential buildings and critical infrastructure.
According to Guterres, energy facilities, water supply systems, and transport are coming under attack.
The Secretary-General believes that the consequences of such attacks are felt not only by Ukraine, as the war creates threats to global supply chains.
"Muscovy has subjected a sovereign country to a brutal war in gross violation of the UN Charter", Guterres stated.
UN Secretary-General called for defending the UN Charter
Guterres stressed that the international community must adhere equally to the principles enshrined in the UN Charter. According to him, there should be no exceptions, including on issues concerning the protection of civilians and the provision of humanitarian aid.
"We must defend the UN Charter without double standards, protect civilians without exceptions, and ensure humanitarian access without obstruction", Guterres noted.
