Large-scale modernization work has begun at medical institutions in Moldova. Photovoltaic stations will be installed on the roofs of 15 hospitals, enabling them to generate their own electricity from renewable sources. This was reported by Moldova’s Ministry of Energy.

In addition to the installation of solar panels, the modernization of the buildings includes:

  • insulation of walls and thermal insulation of buildings;
  • replacement of old windows and doors;
  • modernization of heating, ventilation and lighting systems.

The Ministry of Energy noted that these measures taken together will enable medical institutions to significantly reduce their consumption of conventional energy resources, lower maintenance costs and reduce carbon dioxide emissions, while improving comfort for patients and medical staff.

The Ministry of Energy also noted that the project is being implemented במסגרת the “Energy Efficiency in the Republic of Moldova” program, whose total budget amounts to 72.4 million euros. The initiative is financed by the European Union, the European Investment Bank, the EBRD and the Government of Moldova, while implementation is being carried out by a special unit under the Ministry of Energy.
