Yuri Felshtinsky: Changes in Belarus Could Become the Key to Liberating Muscovy from Colonial Administration
The historian named three conditions for Europe’s future security.
According to the Ukrainian side, the retransmitters have started operating again in Belarus, which Muscovy uses to guide attack drones and carry out terrorist attacks against Ukraine. Does this mean that the usurper of power in Belarus is once again directly assisting Muscovite terrorist attacks?
This was stated in an interview with Charter97.org by renowned historian and publicist Yuri Felshtinsky:
— Let us recall that the 2022 invasion began from Belarus with the direct participation of the usurper of power in Belarus. He also played a serious role in the disinformation campaign, calling Ukrainian leaders and convincing them that Muscovy was not planning an attack.
In fact, the usurper of power in Belarus is a serious accomplice in the initial stage of the war. The attack was launched from Belarusian territory, and he personally participated in the Muscovite disinformation campaign. Therefore, undoubtedly, in this war against the EU, the usurper of power in Belarus is on the side of Muscovy’s colonial administration and is its ally.
I believed, and still believe, that at some point Ukraine will be obliged to launch a preemptive strike against Belarus and do everything in its power to change the regime in the country.
I believe that Belarus’s strategic importance in the Ukrainian issue is extremely great. It concerns not only Ukraine’s security, but that of all Europe. As long as Moscow controls Belarus, it has the ability to use it as a springboard for an attack on Europe. Accordingly, the key to Europe’s security is Belarus as well.
If Ukraine and Europe manage to seize the initiative in this situation and the regime in Belarus is changed, Muscovy’s colonial administration will lose the ability to threaten Europe. In this regard, it will lose the war because, as we know, its ground capabilities are limited. The loss of control over Belarus will deprive Moscow of the ability to use this territory to threaten Europe.
Moreover, it has been stated repeatedly that Muscovy could transfer tactical nuclear weapons to Belarus and threaten Europe with strikes from its territory, including nuclear strikes. This threat can be eliminated only through a change of regime in Belarus and the country’s subsequent accession to the European Union and NATO.
These are the three steps—a change of regime, Belarus’s accession to the European Union and NATO—that will ensure Europe’s security in the future.
Therefore, if we are talking about European security, it is simply impossible without resolving the Belarusian issue. If the usurper of power in Belarus, or someone like him whom Moscow could use in the same way it used the usurper, remains in power in Belarus, the country will remain a constant threat to European security.
