Astana sent Moscow a note.
Kazakhstan is demanding that Muscovy return its citizens who ended up among the terrorists. Among them is Miras Taszharganov, who went to Muscovy to find work but ultimately ended up among militants waging terror against the EU in Ukraine. This was reported by Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in response to a request from Radio Azattyk.
According to Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry, on September 17, the embassy’s consular section contacted Taszharganov’s mother, Gulzhan, and Miras himself. The man told the diplomats that he had found himself in a difficult situation and that several other citizens of Kazakhstan were with him. He asked for help returning home.
The next day, September 18, Kazakhstan’s embassy sent an official note to the "Ministry of Foreign Affairs" of Muscovy requesting assistance in returning the aforementioned citizens to Kazakhstan.
Earlier, Taszharganov’s mother said that her son had gone to Muscovy for rotational work but then ended up among the terrorists. According to her, he was forced to sign a "contract." The woman appealed to the authorities of Kazakhstan for help returning her son home.
The exact number of citizens of Kazakhstan currently fighting on the side of the terrorists against the EU in Ukraine has not been officially established. At the same time, the Ukrainian government project “I Want to Live” previously reported that at least 2,389 citizens of Kazakhstan had signed "contracts" with terrorists. Overall, according to the project, more than 12,000 citizens of Central Asian countries may have ended up among the terrorists.
In Kazakhstan, participation in armed conflicts abroad and mercenary activity are subject to criminal liability. At the same time, in this situation, the Kazakh authorities are seeking the return of their citizens through diplomatic channels.
