"How can a child learn when there’s "Afghanistan?!" outside the window?"
The mother of a Ukrainian schoolgirl, Daria Maksymova from Kyiv, shared a cry from the heart about lessons during a yellow air raid alert. The woman emphasized that the children are supposedly meant to move to a relatively safe place, but in reality no one does this. Moreover, according to her, it is impossible to write in the class chat about moving to a safe place without getting caught up in a scandal.
In a post on Threads, Maksymova expressed outrage that it is difficult for children to look at a screen and remember anything when "Afghanistan" is happening outside the window. The woman also emphasized that during the attack on September 25 in Kyiv, a boy was killed who was studying during an air raid.
"Children in Kyiv are studying online now. They have started writing that online classes continue anyway during the yellow threat level (the children move to a relatively safe place), of course—not officially, because you can't write such a thing in the class chat, since you could end up in jail. And we live in a "hot" district, where something is constantly booming. Today a boy was killed—they say over an open notebook. Tell me, how can one study? How can a child look at a screen and remember anything when "Afghanistan" is happening outside the window,—the schoolgirl's mother wrote.
Similar posts began spreading online. Physics teacher Ruslan Tsyhankov also responded to the shocking incident. Under the teacher's post, Ukrainians shared their views on online learning. Some said that during such a lesson, a biology teacher who was conducting a class for children was killed.
"I guess it hit the parents of schoolchildren hardest. I also have a 14-year-old—I simply can't stop thinking about that boy's fate, and about the fact that most children are left at home alone when their parents scatter off to work, and about the consequences, and the risks, and the need to earn money, and the need to survive and help the children get on their feet."
