Scientists Explain the Benefits of Sleeping In on Weekends
A new study surprised researchers with its findings.
Scientists analyzed data from nearly 41,000 adults covering the period from 2016 to 2023, reports Prevention. The researchers compared the participants’ sleep duration on workdays and non-workdays, and then correlated these figures with cases of elevated blood pressure.
According to the study’s author, Navon Lee of Korea University College of Medicine, approximately 1 hour and 26 minutes of additional sleep on weekends was associated with an approximately 9% lower likelihood of hypertension.
This association was particularly pronounced among participants who led sedentary lifestyles.
